Doing Business in (DBI) is DJØF Students annual student trip, it is arranged in cooperation with Novozymes and Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
The purpose of DBI is to give 30 top-students from a broad range of disciplines and universities the opportunity to solve real problems when doing business in one of the most talked about countries with tools taught by the Boston Consulting Group. On the trip the students are challenged to move beyond their class room knowledge and integrate their academic learning with prior work experience and street smartness, both their own and their fellow students’.
The chosen students get to spend two weeks, learning about Novozymes and its current challenges and opportunities in the chosen country. They must also build a strong understanding of the macro-economic factors effecting the industry, as well as environmental and cultural implications for a Danish company operating in a foreign environment.
The trip is organized with a mix of cultural, social and skill enhancing events and workshops. A normal day can start with a challenging workshop given by BCG, continue with a visit to the local university and later offer a lesson in the national dance.
By the end of the trip, the students are challenged to solve a case, which is not just realistic, but entirely real for Novozymes. The students are expected to meet a requirement of academic substance in their case work, while the solutions should also be visionary, realistic and feasible to implement. During the case solving, the students will get coaching and support from both Novozymes and BCG representatives.
Before the trip, the students spend one day at Novozymes learning about the company’s business model, values and general challenges and opportunities. They also get the opportunity to visit the BCG office in Copenhagen, where they get trained in case solving, storytelling, and presentation techniques.
One week after the trip, the groups are to present their solutions to a panel of executives from the two sponsor companies. They will receive extensive feedback on their work and the winning group is announced.
